We are a progressive Christian community in the heart of Northeast Portland, Oregon. Together we use our hands to do God's work in our community and in our world.

Reconciling in Christ

In response to the call in Romans 15:7 to “welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you for the glory of God,” we, the members of Central, join hands with all people, grateful for the unique gifts that each of us has to offer. We honor race, age, gender identity and expression, marital status, physical and mental ability, sexual orientation, national origin, and economic status. We celebrate together both the diversity of God’s family and our unity as God’s people.

We are members of the Oregon Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. We are a Lutheran Christian church with liturgical roots grounded in our Scripture.  We baptize, serve communion, preach, and work alongside one another and our community.  We welcome all people to walk with us in faith.

Historic Central Lutheran Church

Our community gathers and worships in a historic church building designed by Pietro Belluschi. Used by the congregation, as well as over 40 annual building users per year, our facility is quickly becoming the home of a wider community of gathered people.
