Tower Restoration Drive

DONATE NOW

Restoring the tower, a symbol of worship and service at Central, not only meets the needs of Central but also the community. Located in Historic Irvington District, Central Lutheran Church's historic building, designed by renowned architect, Pietro Belluschi, provides a venue for many public and community events, including Young at Heart for seniors, Music Together and the Northeast Indoor Park for children, the Disablility Arts and Culture Project, and a Sing-a-long Handels' Messiah. Restoring the Tower and raising the cross is a commitment that Central is here for the community.

On February 17, 2008, Central kicked-off its Tower Restoration Drive with a well attended and meaningful luncheon event. Hazel Larpenteur, talked about the Fund-raising program for the restoration. Recent articles printed in the Oregonian interviewed Margaret Moilien about the book she wrote on the history of Central and Hazel Larpenteur about progress made in fundraising and obtaining grants from foundations and charitable organizations. Central will be applying for permits with the city of Portland by the end of June as required. The Block-A-Thon, alone, on June 8 raised $2300 in one hour of walking

A schematic of the new tower is the backdrop for the $250,000 drive to "Lift High the Cross". Pledges and donations toward the construction and renovation are joyfully accepted. Please contact the Central office at 503-284-2331 or e-mail office@centralportland.org for more information.
