Pastor Brian Brandt came to Central in March 2004. Previously, he served as Interim Pastor at Bethany Lutheran in Portland from 2002-04. Before coming to Portland, Pastor Brian served several congregations in Chicago.
Education: B.A., Philosophy (Maharishi International University); M.A., Asian Religions (Univ. of Iowa); M.Div., Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago; and Ph.D., Christian Ethics, Loyola University-Chicago. Pastor Brian has led large-scale public processes of moral deliberation on matters of human sexuality and the full inclusion of GLBT persons in the church both in the Greater Milwaukee Synod (2001-02) and in the Oregon Synod (2004-05) of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He also served on the Bishop’s Election Task Force for the Oregon Synod (2006-07). Pastor Brian’s interests include social justice issues generally, particularly matters related to Christian spirituality of the Earth and the ethics of ecological sustainability.
