Holy
Week Triduum
The Triduum or ¡®three days¡¯
of Holy Week are part of the greatest story ever told.. All round
the world Christians will gather on these three days to remember
the great Story of Jesus¡¯ life, death, and resurrection in a series
of powerful rituals.
Maundy Thursda, the Thursday before Easter is the day that Jesus
commanded his disciples to ¡®love one another as I have loved you.¡¯
Central traditionally celebrates with a Feast fo Freedom, eating
dinner together in a structured, meditative way. We remember in
this meal how Jesus
- washed the disciples¡¯ feet
- fed them with the bread and wine that are for us Christ¡¯s body
and blood
- prepared himself for death by praying in the garden
Good Friday is not 'goog' because death and suffering are ¡®good¡¯
but because, on this day, our suffering and death became God¡¯s
suffering and death in Jesus Christ. We bring symbols of our suffering
- old letters, newspaper articles, etc. - and lay them at the
foot of the cross. We sing and pray, remembering the story of
Jesus¡¯ suffering and death on the cross. We take time to remember
the whole world and it¡¯s suffering in prayer.
Saturday is the Easter Vigil. On this evening we gather to kindle
the light of Jesus¡¯ resurrection, to listen to the old stories
of God¡¯s love for us, to wash Christians new and old in the waters
of baptism and renewal, and to partake of the first Communion
of Easter. This is an evening rich with symbols and stories, overflowing
with love beyond all telling!
Children are welcome at all three of the Triduum festivals! Childcare
will be available for our youngest friends on Friday night only.
