Worship at Central

POST-TRADITIONAL, KID-FRIENDLY
10:15 AM every Sunday.

Worship is the heart of who we are and all we do.

Post-Traditional Worship
Central’s worship style is “Post-Traditional.” That means we use the traditional shape of worship but fill it with music, song, language, and movement from global sources old and new. We creatively enhance our beloved traditions of Christian worship.

Kid-Friendly Worship
We include kids in worship whenever possible. Kids serve as song leaders, candle-lighters, and assistants for various parts of the worship service. A staff member supports kids’ music. The pastor gives a kids’ message every week. Age-appropriate activity kits with new materials each week help smaller kids enjoy the worship service. At the end of every service, we invite kids to play percussion instruments (shakers, small drums) while we sing a lively closing song. Kids eagerly look forward to this! It’s a great way to close the service and move to coffee hour.

Music & Language in Central’s Worship
Music at Central tends toward celebration. It includes new American hymns; songs from churches in Africa, Asia, Latin America; Spirituals from African-American tradition and the Euro-American gospel tradition; and hymns from the European Christian heritage.

Language for worship at Central tends to be gender-inclusive for humans and for God. We use an inclusive-language Bible for reading in worship. Hymns are usually gender-inclusive. Worship language reflects our belief that God stands against domination and abuse. We worship a God who is loving, just, and includes all people equally in one new humanity in Christ.
